I guess there isn't any set of rules I have learned all at once, but over time...here they are as I can recall them.

1) Believe in yourself.
2) Be on time.
3) Be respectful of others even if they are not respectful of you
4) Honesty in everything you do
5) Being proactive is better than being reactive
6) If you're going to lead a team, lead by example.
7) Attitude is EVERYTHING.
8) Give Back...(at the end of the day...give back to your community, charity, church, etc.) It will be more rewarding than anything else.
That is all I can think of...but over the past 5 years working from home and the last 15 years in the logistics industry...it has gotten me further than my wildest expectations.

To have a happy and successful life, you must go above and beyond the call of duty in everything you do. At the end of the day when you ask yourself what you accomplished or if you made a difference, stop and think about it, everyone makes a difference...... but did you make a "POSITIVE" difference in someone else's day or life? The most impactful business advice I ever received was in 1990 - someone suggested I learn to use a computer. =)

Here are a few tips that have aided in my success:

Be on time:
Respecting other people's time shows that you respect your own.

Respond to email, calls or messages before the end of the business day:
Even if you can't give a detailed answer, respond acknowledging the message saying you'll reply soon.

Maintain a professional presence online:
Never post anything on the Internet that you would not want a current or future, employer, client, or business partner to see or read.

Good communication is key:
Let someone know as soon as possible if you can't make a commitment, deadline or need to reschedule.

Follow your passions:
You'll find success and reward when you choose endeavors that hold a special interest for you.

I'm looking forward to reading more advice & tips from the Workspace Community.

What do you do in Logistics?

I move freight via air charters, air freight, LTL, expedited ground, truck load, flatbed & specialized, some intermodal and once in a great while I deal with the ports.

I usually set up the transportation, get all custom clearances handled, arrange for cranes if it is going to be specialized and sometimes I arrange dock transfers. It just depends on the customer and the requirements that need to be met.

I guess that is a quick summary of what I do...it is rather fast paced and it keeps me on my toes!

To Never Quit! If you stumble, learn from the mistake and keep it moving...

Always have multiple streams of income...

Learn to delegate, but don't put your money making decisions in the hands of others...

Ask questions and then listen, the person who speaks first almost always loses out (in regard to fees, quotes, etc.)

Be mindful of people's time, including your own...

Don't just do things to be busy, do things to produce results...

I've learned countless lessons over time, but the ones I can think of at the moment are here...

There are 5 areas to evaluate when looking at a company;
1. The company
2. The need/market place
3. The product
4. Compensation
5. Timing

We have been in business for over 30 years, and pubicily traded on the New York Stock Exchange as well as having been featured in many major publications such as Forbes, Success From Home, Canadian Business, Black Enterprise, etc. Our sales history goes up year after year in the millions and we are only at 3% market penetration. This is a great business that I choose to be a part of and wish to share with all. We have a special dvd for pastors and all church affailates. The below link has a presentation that confirms everything.
