I think for me it's a must. I have never been overly concerned about being politically correct. I have been self employed in one form or another for about 20 years now.

I have no tolerance for office politics or the other BS that accompanies a traditonal job. As I read through some of the posts, I saw "problems with authority" listed as a reason. That applies to me to an extent. If I believe that my idea is best, I will run wiith it. I got tired of the continual angst of corporate.

I had a cleanning service for close to 20 years. I had gone back to school in my mid 40's and am 1 class shy of a business degree. During this time I began to analyse what it was about the cleaning service that suited me.

1. I wasn't in the same spot day after day
2. For the most part decision making was occuring one on one, eliminating the politics
3. There was "space" created by the time frames between service calls. which I believe help to prevent certain emotional expectations. And if there are some rough moments, the space between visits allows people time to put things back into perspective.
4. The good and or bad were in my hands, giving me more controll of the outcome.
5. After being self employed for so long, I don't think that there is any going back.

Because of taking business, I learned that there are alot of potential financial benifits in the form of tax deductions that don't exist for an employee. I also like the challenge of it, and the perceived freedom of movement. If I do well well the credit is mine and if things are going badly I won't be slowed down when I need to correct something.

I have begun to do online sales via the various venues. In today's economy I see the online options as a super low cost way to build up a business. I pay as I go to list an item and am discovering other venues that charge a commission after the fact and have NO upfront costs. I also live on Long Island, one of the priciest costs of living in America. Online will allow me to develop a business that doesn't require any hassles if I relocate.

All of the above but most importantly I would say flexible hours so that I don't miss those important family events. I missed so many of those when my kids were growing up that I don't want the same to happen with my grandchildren..

Hi,
All of the above and then much more is what attracts me to becoming a Home Business Owner; I cannot state it enough how important my time is to me, having lost a child, I have many regrets; things that we could have done together. Finances are very important, however so is our time. I want to be able to make the most out of my every minute, whether it be with my family & friends or at work. I want to make a difference.

I worked outside of my home for many companies since the age of 15. From 1999 to 2005 I worked very long hours and my sons were young. I was at the time a single Mom; I was making money, however we did not get to enjoy it. I worked very long hours and I truly enjoyed my work, but it was emotionally and physically draining. Leaving me physically unable to do many things that my family enjoyed doing.

Today, I want to plan my work and our fun.

My answer would definitely be ALL of the ABOVE! But, I especially like the flexibility that allows me to be a better Mom. If one (or both) of my kids are sick I can take care of them w/o having to ask for permission. When I worked outside the home, I loved my job and loved my boss, but it always made me worry if I had to take off from work. Now I don't have that worry and I make just as good and sometimes more money than before!
