I have completed school for medical billing & coding my advice to everyone who is tryin to go into this field. Your best route is to get connected with AHIMA or CCPA because it is hard to get a job if you are not certified and most jobs want you to working in the field for at least 5 years before they allow you to work from home. I this for a fact my instructor works from home she is the one who let me know this information. She is also a proctor for CCPA so if you can bypass all these other schools and go straight to the main source. I advise you to do so and pay the $2.000.00 its better than paying $14,000.00 and still looking for employment because the school does not pay the $300 to certify you. So to everyone if you going to these school make sure they pay for certification and you have the Professional coding books to take the certification.

try local colleges in your area too... The name of the school and how well they known are considered to the offices you will apply to once you are finished.

Hi Wondell, welcome to the group! I also wanted to tell you about Penn Foster, I am currently enrolled there. I have enjoyed it so far and they offer an affordable monthly payment plan with a low monthly down payment. Send me a message if you need other information.

I don't really like having conversations in the comment's area. I prefer to have them in the Discussion Forum area above. Since everyone else is speaking in the comment's section as guess I'll have to say this here.

How does one get started in medical billing? I'm tired of the scams you see in the classifieds. Someone PLEASE point me in a legitimate direction.

Thanks

Hi, my name is Angela Buford and I have just enrolled in a medical billing and coding program. I am very excited about the possibility to be able to work from home, are there any coders who currently work from home, that can tell me about the positives from at home work?

Thanks Shalaunda! However, don't overwhelm yourself. It will all come together. Just make a plan for yourself and stick to that plan. Finish the course and take all the advise given by the school you are training with. One thing I can say, when I took my course, it was concentrated mainly on billing by hand no software was involved. I got all the free billing software I could get online to learn how to doing billing via the computer. If they are still teaching coding with mainly paper claims please get ahead of the game and learn how to do it on the computer.

Welcome Rae-Michele! I am trying to finish up my courses right now so that I can find something hopefully. I am interested in starting my own business, I keep hearing that now is the time. It's overwhelming to know where to start. Good luck with all of your ventures.
