Hi my name is Rae-Michele and I took a Med/Bill. course about 5 or so years ago, I didnt get certified. I ended up doing billing and coding on the dental side. It's kind of funny how these classes don't teach dental billing. It is basically the same process. I have noticed that on the medical side you are kind of treated like you come a dime a dozen, but on the dental side you get treated like gold. If anyone has the opportunity to learn any dental billing and coding I would definitely recommend it, you will see world of difference. When I finished school I wanted to open my own business but ended up working for a friend,(who a dentist) now that opportunity has come and gone I have been contemplating opening my own business again. But for any one who the opportunity comes to have your own business, go for it.

Tracey, I think there are more companies that are looking for people to work from home w/o having to go into the facility. I know The American Academy of Professional Coders has an externship to help people gain experience. Although I am not sure if that will change you having to go into the facility, you could find people working in that field that live in your area and they should definitely be able to help you. I am still learning some things so I will pass them on as I find out.

I have often thought about working in this field. I do need to know in order to work from home do I have to first work in a medical facility before I can work at home? Or are their school that will prepare me to work at home after completing their course? Feedback please. Thank you

Check out Aviacode.com and Inscribe.com. Maybe also consider joining The American Academy of Professional Coders, there are some good leads there. Have you taken the CPC or CCS exam?

I completed college with an Associate Degree in Medical Billing&Coding but i could not find anyone to hire me. So could anyone offer any advice as to how to land a job doing this at home
