Does anyone know if having certain skills will keep you from being offered other skills? I did a live chat and the PAL said that I would not have DR doing some other skills. I did another live chat and asked and this particular PAL said they didn't know. Has anyone heard anything like this before?

Some skills you cannot have others skills for, however they would offer you the skill first I was told that if someone resigned from a skill that did not mean they would be offered a new skill and that it takes a long time to be offered a different skill if you resign.

I have been with West for almost a yr. since April - I am on DR and I requested another Skill but was told that
they do not give other skills on request.

So who knows, I think they just offer the skill - but don't know how.

I have 3 different skills but I have been with them a year. I think they are to the point that they have WAY too many agents which in turns leaves the older agents with the seniority out in the lurk. They really need to put a freeze on hiring agents and give skills to us older ones.

Opps I forgot to mention even though I have 3 skills I can not get any hours on them. I think it really stinks.

Exactly! I have two and can barely get hours. I seen that Ctitcard skill requires 20 hrs a week and the hours are available, pay is $8-12. A new hire was given this skill. I am doing DR which is terrible for 6.55/hr, (I hate it) and Live Nation which I like, but the hours are so hard to get! I can't quit though, and just praying for a better skill!

Sorry us "New hires" have the skills you want. But it isn't our fault that West hasn't offered you a new one yet. It gets really annoying when people blame the "newbies" when we need a job just as bad as the rest of you.

Whatever "Mike", I was not saying new hire blaming a "newbie" as you put it! I meant someone that has no other skill . If you read what I said above , a PAL told me that I may not get some skills because I am already doing direct response, maybe direct response was not the best choice for me to pick first. I have only been with West since Oct. so I don't claim to be a veteran, but I have been offered other skills in addition to direct reponse (live nation which I love, and FCC which was a temp. gov. skill, I loved it too). Please don't get it twisted "Mike", and keep your tone positive or don't post at all. Thank you so very much.

Wow, someone is having a temper tantrum. Mike, I don't think anyone is blaming the new hires for getting certain skills. Like you said, it's not the new hire's fault that they got the skill so why would anyone blame them?
I do have to agree with Charlene (even though I'm a "newbie", as you say Mike) that West did hire way too many people. The last citi-training webinar I was in had over a hundred people in there. I was shocked that they had hired so many people and that gave me an idea as to why the logins were taking over a month to get to the agents. And I can see it now with the hours. My first week of working I could wait a few days after the hours were posted to get the exact hours I wanted, but this week I'm having to keep searching the trades just so I can get my 20 hour minimum. I'm guessing that's because they sent out some more logins last weekend. I'm gonna have to start stalking the hours now! lol I'm glad I have LiveOps to fall back on (But I like working for West more), but I'm even having trouble getting calls from them.

Hi Rebecca. Do you do DR for LiveOps, and do you think the pay is better? West Dr is.15 or min (whichever is higher). LiveOps sounds like something good to do in addition to West, but I'm not crazy about having to fool with the taxes and all that jazz.

Hey Sherry
Yes I do DR for LiveOps. I was scared to try it at first, b/c of the tax thing and pay per min. But I hear from the LiveOps board that if you can get in some upsells that you can make up to $15 an hour. I'm only doing my first 30 calls right now, so I'm still learning. I think you get paid .25 per min. I'll double check and let you know, but I think that's what I saw when I signed up. The training is really easy, I finished it in two days, so thats no biggie. And about the tax thing, I plan on putting up a certain amount every payday so when it's time to pay your taxes I'll have enough to pay. That seems like the best thing to do. And the job really isn't that bad. You just read off a script and answer whatever questions you can and give the customer service number for the rest of the questions. The only hard part (to me) is all the upsells. I hate upsells b/c the customers get angry, but when they do you can just skip the rest of the upsells. So that's a good thing. You should check out the site and the board for them, find out if it's something you want to do. If you have any more questions, ask away and I'll try to answer them.

Sherry it may be like that for me too once I finish training. I just got hired for the new Citi Home Depot skill. (A new skill for West) They had some crazy requirements though, and I almost didn't get to start after all because the requirements were more strict for Home Depot on screen resolutions ect. I am thinking there will be lots of hours, but who knows once training is completed and people start fighting over hours. I keep thinking what if I get used to this pay and then they close out the skill or something?? I am just taking it day by day as it comes for now. I also just got hired back on with Convergys. (I am going to do both just to make sure that in case one shorts out on hours.. I will have one to fall back on. LO just didn't pay well enough for me. Some shifts I worked I didn't even make 2.00 an hour.. they have no guaranteed rate). Convergys is hiring right now *I think, and it is guaranteed pay with 30 hours a week. You might try there, it is night hours though, but I don't mind.

Sherry,
About your original post, did they tell you what kind of skills that you couldn't get b/c of DR? With Citi CS you have to do some upselling, so could that be why you weren't offered that skill? Because you would have to sell stuff on both skills? Sorry, I'm really new to all of this but I can't see why you wouldn't be allowed to work some skills just because you are working DR. They should just let you work any skill they have available.
