There are some wonderful Independent Contractor opportunities out their for paralegals and anyone else who is interested making money as a Notary Signing Agent or a Legal Document Preparer. You don’t have to be a paralegal to be a legal document preparer or a notary-signing agent. A legal education helps but is not necessary.

Hi there,
I just joined workspace. Were you able to get any information? I am in the same boat. Unemployed and looking for something within the paralegal field.

Hi Joel. Would you mind sharing some information as to how to become a Legal Document Preparer? In today's market, do you know if there is a demand? Thanks.

People are always looking for a low cost alternative to an attorney, so yes there is a demand in this market. The best way to start a career as a legal document preparer is to join the National Association of Legal Document Preparers because they have a lot of educational materials to help you start and maintain your document preparation business.

Hello everyone,

I was interested in becoming a Paralegal and I am three classes and an internship away from an AAS in legal studies but the competition is horrible. When you apply for a job they want experience but you cannot gain experience because you cannot get hired. That is why I did not finish my degree. I am going back in the fall to finish it just to feel like I accomplished something. I am also 7 classes away from a BS in Management but my love have always been for the law. Now I will be 50 and feel to old to go for a law degree which have been a dream.

I would love to at least be in the legal field and a Legal Document Preparer sounds like a promising business. Does the above link to the agency get you started or do you have to solicit work yourself? How do I set a price for my services? I would appreciate any words of encouragement on how to get started..

Thanks,

Aida

I am VERY interested in sub-contractor work. I became a paralegal many years ago in Florida, and have at least 22 years experience under my belt. I now live in Las Vegas, NV, and am searching for either a virtual position, or where I can pick up work (transcription, medical summary, trial prep, etc) and drop it back off. Tell me how I can apply for that type of work! Thanks. Annie

I have been a Notary for the state of South Carolina for the past two years. I used to work as an auto claim adjuster for a major insurance company and notarized power of attorney forms and titles. I have since left the insurance fieId and currently work in financial services. I have an interest in becoming a signing agent. I have done some research and I'm able to notarize documents at real estate closings as long as I am not "acting" in the role as an attorney by offering advice. I kind of put the idea on the back burner because I've been busy with my full time job. However, I am ready to get started and would welcome any advice that you may have. I may be contacted via email at cherie_hobson@yahoo.com. Thanks and God Bless! :)
