What will tomorrow bring?

The news reports state that we are in a very tough economic state and that the unemployment rate is one of the highest we have seen. What does this say about our future? To me it says that job security isn't what it used to be, unfortunately.

I moved from North Carolina to Mississippi with my husband, after graduating with my Master's degree in Public Administration thinking the the job offers were just going to be pouring in. Boy was I wrong. Not only was I in a new area, I was pregnant with our first child. My thoughts were that it would be a few months, then I would find something, at least until my daughter was born. When that didn't happen, I figured that I was just part of God's plan that I stay home with my daughter.

Then it happened, my husband's "very good" job with the railroad company was suddenly not there anymore and he was scramblimg to find something so that we could eat. The railroad called him back to work so we were able to breathe easy. Then it happened all over again, after the last few hurricanes in the MS/TX area, only this time, the railraod company didn't call him back to work. Because the tracks were so messed up in TX, people there didn't have anywhere to work so they moved to our area and were taking jobs from those people that had only been employed with the company less than 5 years!

This taught me a lot about loyalty to your employees, it doesn't exist in all situations. This had me thinking about what our next steps were going to be. Lucky for us, he was able to return to his old job at another company with no problems. The downside is that he works 12 hrs. a day at least 5 days a week, sometimes 7 days a week!

Needless to say, our faith has been tested many times over, but we remain optimistic about our situation.
